Ask a Minister

~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: I have asked Jesus to save me from all my sins many times, and I am still uncertain that I am saved, and I am talking about many years. How can I know that I am saved and I am going to heaven? I ask Jesus everyday to forgive me for my sins. Why do I feel this way? I go to a Bible believing church every week.

Answer: Do you believe the Bible, that it is the infallible Word of God? Believing is a choice that you make and not just a feeling. God, who cannot lie, said, "But as many as receive Him (Jesus), to them gave He the power to become the sons (children) of God, even to them that believe on His name" (John 1:12; see also John 3:16; 5:24). God wants you to believe that what He says is true. You do not believe with your feelings, but you must believe by the choice of your WILL! It is true because God said it, not because you feel it. You have to believe it before you can feel it.

Repenting of your sins and believing in Jesus as the One who took upon Himself the guilt of your sins, is your part of the transaction. Saving your soul and writing your name in the Book of Life is God's part. You do your part, and God is positively certain to do His part. Maybe you doubt yourself, but God's Words are steadfast and sure.
