Ask a Minister

~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: If a person, such as my brother, confessed Christ as his saviour but never got the chance to be baptized, did he still go to hell? Please answer soon with scripture with your answer.

Answer: We are not baptized to BE saved, but BECAUSE we are saved. When we are baptized, we are publicly taking a stand for Christ. The dying thief who was crucified with Jesus was assured, "This day thou shalt be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43). He had no opportunity to be baptized.

Salvation is by faith through the grace of God (John 1:12; 5:24; Romans 5:1; 10:9-19). The emphasis in the Bible is on BELIEVING Christ died for you. If a person truly believed, then the baptizing should come as an outward witness to an inward work.
