Ask a Minister

~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: I am evaulating myself as a Christian and do not like what I see. I am wondering if I have ever been converted and I often wonder if I am capable of conversion anymore.

Answer: Let me just begin by saying, There is help and conversion for you! I can say that based on God's own Word.

You say that you are evaluating yourself; that is good. The Apostle Paul said, "Examine yourselves whether you are in the faith." From what you say it appears that you don't like what you see, and are questioning your faith.

Let me begin by saying that God wants YOU to be saved. He sent His Son to accomplish this. "He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to eternal life." That means you. The matter of conversion if quite simple. I like to think of it this way:

A - Acknowledge that you are a sinner. "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God."
B - Believe. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved."
C - Confess. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Jim, these are the steps you need to take to be sure that you are a child of God. God's word is true, if you do what He tells you to do, He will surely do His part.

You are very wise to see the desperate nature of your need. Be assured of our prayers. I would further encourage you to find a good Bible-believing church; make an appointment with a pastor so he can lead you further on these matters.
