Question: Where do the dead go?

Answer: As evidenced by the certain rich man and Lazarus, there is an immediate passing into either heaven or hell upon death. See Luke 16:19-31. Upon death, it seems that the soul and the spirit pass directly into their heavenly or hellish abode (eternal). When Jesus returns upon the Rapture of the Church, the righteous deceased will have a bodily resurrection. That is, their physical bodies will unite with their soul and spirit upon ascending into heaven (both body and spirit) to participate in the judgment of the believers, the marriage of the Lamb, and eternal bliss. See 1 Corinthians 15:1-58 and 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. Revelation 21:1-22:6 gives a beautiful description of Heaven.
