Question: Is there really a point where you can no longer be touched by God?Answer: From God's side, "He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9). In another place God says that He would have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4).
From man's side, there is the freedom of choice. The Scripture says, "In the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their conscience seared with a hot iron" (1 Timothy 4:1-2).
Also, "If we sin willfully after we have come to the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sin...... who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified , an unholy thing, and has done despite to the Spirit if Grace" (Hebrews 10: 26-31).
In the foregoing passages of Scripture, we see not God, but man, sealing his doom by his own choices. When a man chooses darkness rather than light , he brings about his own condemnation, despite God's desire to save him from sin and guilt.
There is a Bible principle that whenever a person resists the truth, a hardening process takes place in his heart.
In Exodus, we read that Pharaoh hardened his heart, but it also says that God hardened Pharaoh's heart. Both statements are true. We have a moral God who will hold us, as creatures with the power of moral choices, responsible for the choices we make. Each wrong choice hardens our hearts the more, as we continue in them. (See Exodus 7:3, 8:15, 19, 32; 9:12, 34).
Jesus warned the unbelievers in Mark 3:29, that all sins except that of blaspheming the Holy Spirit can be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes the Holy Spirit does not have forgiveness. In such a case, God holds a man to his choice, and regards it forever as his final choice.
In Hebrews, we see another case wherein a person can make an eternally final choice concerning his soul's destiny: "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy spirit, and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come; If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance, seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and bring Him to an open shame" (Hebrews 6:4-6).
God did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all. This was an unspeakably great sacrifice that God made on our behalf. God is merciful and long suffering, but it is dangerous to trifle with Him.
"Seek ye the Lord while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts, and let him and let him return unto the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our god, for He will abundantly pardon." Anyone who feels in his heart a desire to respond to this invitation should be thankful that the day of grace is not over for him, and immediately respond to it (Isaiah 55:6-7).
