~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: I am confused about forgiveness . . . . . . If a woman has made a choice to terminate her pregnancy, will she be forgiven? Where can I find this in the Bible? Does God forgive for every sin except murder?

Answer:

I am so glad that you have taken the time to write. Your question is a serious one, and one so relevant to these times. Does God forgive all sin?

I am glad to say, yes! First, I want to tell you that God hates all sin. He is so holy, that He cannot tolerate sin and ungodliness. But now here is the good news. He hates sin so much that He wants to deliver all people from it, and free them from the wages of sin.

Sin, including abortion and murder is forgiven only on the basis of His Son, Jesus Christ. When Jesus died upon the cross, He died for every single sin. He said, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do." Please understand, He was asking God to forgive ALL sinners of ALL their sin. Murders, liars, rapist, abortionists, etc . . . Does everyone receive God's forgiveness? No. The reason is, not everyone is willing to do what God says for sinners to do to receive His forgiveness; and that is, that we must repent of our sins. (Luke 13:1-3) That means to really be sorry towards GOD that we have offended Him, and request of God the free gift of forgiveness for our sins.

This repentance is what John had in mind when he wrote, "(1John 1:9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness." Praise God!!!

Here are some more Scriptures that tell us that God forgives all sin. "Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people, thou hast covered all their sin"(Psalms 85: 2). "Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases" (Psalms 103: 3). "Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon" (Isaiah 55: 7).

After God forgives us, we need to trust Him to keep us from sinning again. Those that love God, keep His commandments (John 14:15) If we do sin, thankfully, we have Him as our advocate (mediator) between us and the Father, that being Jesus Christ (1 John 2:1-2).

I know that there is a lot of guilt involved with such sins as abortion, but by the grace of God, God can give a peace that passeth all understanding to those who ask Him for forgiveness!

May you trust in the One who loved us and gave Himself for our sins. God bless you. If people don't forgive, realize, God does. There are Christians out there that you need to find and fellowship with. They will help you to draw closer to God. Pray that God leads you to a good fundamental Church that preaches the Bible. We will be praying for you. Always remember, God loves you.
