~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: What about the Baptism for the dead I don't understand this but I know it is in the Bible?

Answer:

This is in fact a very interesting question. Of course the first five letters of the word question is quest; that being a search for the truth or right answer. I will attempt to give you the answer to this question. Baptism for the dead is basically a Mormon belief, which states that you can stand in proxy for your loved ones, and they can be saved through your efforts. We feel that the Bible teaches personal baptism for the individual alone. That is why in Mark 16:16 the personal pronoun "he" is used. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.

Baptism is in fact a type of death to the old man (Adamic nature). As in the days of Noah when the flood came, and the world was under water. When you get baptized, your world goes under water, and your desires are for the things of God. This is taught in Romans 6: 3-5. Therefore baptism is more than just a "get wet" experience, but a very spiritual exercise. It can only be done while an individual is alive, for the Bible teaches us that as a tree falleth so shall it lie. (Ecclesiastes 11:3) Also read Revelation 22:11. This scripture will further confirm this teaching, God bless you and we hope we have been a help.
