Ask a Minister

~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: If you had a friend who is not yet divorced, but no longer living with her husband, and working on the divorce, and has begun to live with another man...not long after accepting Jesus as her Savior, and says "its right for her," how would you handle this?

If there are children involved under 12 years old but over 7 and their dad also has done the same thing... (except accepting the Lord isn't in the picture), how does a Christian friend handle this?

Answer:Your friend, who you say has "accepted the Lord", while at the same time living with a man who is not her husband, is in deep jeopardy, as far as her soul is concerned. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 lists such people who have no inheritance in the Kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21 give the same message. We are not saved TO sin, but we are saved FROM sin.

If your friend has accepted the Lord, I would ask you, is she in a church whose pastor can counsel her? I would strongly recommend that she talk to a Spirit-filled pastor about her problem.

You ask, "How would you handle this?" Your friend says that this relationship with the present man is "Right for her." She is deceiving herself, showing that she does not understand what it means to be a Christian.

I am not sure of this, but I suspect that your friend would resent any interference on your part in this matter. She has made up her mind; she has made her own rules. The best thing you could do is not get involved personally in this matter, bus as a friend, steer her to a pastor in a local church. All Christians should be in a good church, under the spiritual supervision of a godly pastor.
