Ask a Minister

~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: When you are sure someone is a false prophet, do you continue to worship with that person? Does God view this as wrong if He has blessed you to see this for yourself after using the Bible as a reference?

Answer: Here is my advice. I assume by false prophet that you are refering to someone who has done or stated something that is contrary to what is written in the Bible.

Before you sever all ties with that person, I would go to them and ask them about their statement or action. Ask them to show you in the Word where they got this particular belief. If they cannot prove their belief, then show them, in a very humble fashion, why you believe they are wrong. One should do this prayerfully and ask God's guidance. Many people become easily offended when their beliefs are questioned.

It is a serious thing to call someone a false prophet. If it is a pastor or teacher that you are refering to and their beliefs differ from yours, it is best to find out what they base those beliefs on. One thing that I cannot stress enough, is to approach this task prayerfully and humbly. Many a falling out in church has been the result of an argument started over a doctrine or belief.
