Ask a Minister

~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: I am taking a class at university called Christian Ethics. We were recently given a test with the following true or false question on it:

The Bible has plenty of references against the practice of homosexuality.

I answered TRUE and was marked incorrect. I am looking for other views and answers to this question in order to support a rebuttal that I am submitting. Any assistance that you can provide me will be greatly appreciated.

Answer: This is in response to your interest in the homosexual issue in respect to what the Bible has to say about it.

I was appalled to learn that your instructor would discredit your answer to the question on that subject. I went directly to The Word to find the answer; believe it or not, there are so few references to it directly. We, as Christians, recognize so many scriptures referring to the subject, but the word (homosexual) does not appear in the Bible, to my knowledge. However, there are clear and precise accounts of God's disgust with the matter. I will list just four or five for your consideration.

God starts early in His relationship with man to let us know how He feels about it:

Genesis 19:1-13
Lev. 18:22-30
Lev. 20:13
Rom. 1:20-32
1 Cor. 6:9,10
James 1:14,15

I'm sure there are many more, but even to the worldly person, this should be sufficient to make one realize that God is not pleased with such ungodly living.

I hope and pray that you will be able to win this instructor's thinking toward what the Bilbe has to say on the subject.
