~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: Can you help me and highlight me on all Bible verses in this matter? The question is: Are all dead infants and little children (the babies) saved? They had no chance of knowing Christ and accepting Him as Lord, being too young to understand.

Answer:

The writers of the three synoptic gospels record the actions and words of Jesus when His apostles "rebuked those that brought them (the children).

But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 19:14).

But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God (Mark 10:14).

But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God (Luke 18:16).

The phrase "of such is the kingdom of God" would seem to be sufficient in itself to answer the question as to the eternal destiny of little children and babies -- they are members, even representative members ("of such") to be imitated, of the "kingdom of God." Certainly everyone that is a part of the "kingdom of God" will be granted entrance into eternal bliss!

On the other hand, it is important to note it would be impossible to set a specific age (as some have attempted to do) as the "age of accountability." Some people, due to true chemical or physiological mental illness, may perhaps NEVER reach what we would call the "age of accountability." Others have become aware of their personal sinfulness at VERY early ages and accepted Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord. Rest assured, the Lord Himself will deal justly with every person, regardless of their age or mental capacity -- He knows (infinitely better than we do) the condition of each heart and is able to deal with each heart in the perfect way!

Notice also the admonitions of Jesus Christ concerning entering "into the kingdom of heaven" and receiving "the kingdom of God" --

Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein (Luke 18:17).

And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 18:3).

Perhaps the Lord was referring only to certain qualities (humility, forgiveness, faith, etc) in children that were to be imitated. Yet it is certain that the Saviour was implying that these children were, in fact, a part of the kingdom of God, and would enter into the kingdom of heaven.

While the Bible does not bluntly state that "all babies who die go to heaven", the bulk of Scripture leads us to believe that it is true.
