Ask a Minister

~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: Any additional scripture or books you can reccommend about "parishioners who speak against their pastor" This is all done under the umbrella of "please pray for me" I am new to the ministry and have came into a church that has been without a pastor for 2 years. This church was founded 15 yrs. ago from a split from another church. Most all the parishioners are from other churches, left due to differences. So I have many opioninated people who feel they have a direct line to God. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Love in Christ A pastor in need!!

Answer: It is quite a peculiar phenomenon indeed to witness sheep in their attempt to "care for" the shepherd.

Brother, you are not alone in your experience. It is good to have this experience early in your ministry. The experience you will receive will be most valuable.

In my own experience I have taken comfort in the counsel of fellow brethren. There is one book I will recommend "head and shoulders" above the rest that really ministered to me in a special way during the midst of the "storm". It is called "A Tale of Three Kings" by Gene Edwards, published by Christian Books out of Auburn, Maine. A couple more I would recommend are: "Breaking Controlling Powers" published by Harvest House out of Tulsa, Oklahoma and "How To Survive an Attack" from Embassy Publishing in Laguna Hills, California. Both of these books were written by Roberts Liardon. One other book I would strongly recommend is titled "Preaching Through A Storm" by a man by the name of Beecher.

I hope this helps.
