Question: I am having trouble receiving deliverance from a major sin in my life - SMOKING! I pray continually for this burden to be taken away, but I still have this terrible sin in my life. I have tried to put them down, and during the day, prayed to the Lord to help me get through this, but eventually my anger sets in and I start smoking again. Do you have any suggestions or comments to what I should do?I have to tell you, it's pretty hard to testify to others when I smell of smoke, or even have a smoke in front of them! I do want to be an example of the Lord's grace, but this smoking is a real hassle.
Answer: Whether God actually forgets anything or not, the effect is the same: God remembers our sins no more. It is difficult to think of our infinite God actually forgetting anything, since He is omniscient. When God says that He remembers something against us no more (Isaiah 43:25), He is not referring to actual memory but to the fact that He regards a person as if he has not sinned.
