Bible Study on Encouragement

Defined as - The act of inspiring others with renewed courage, spirit or hope. We spur them on, stimulate, affirm them.

Where Can We Find Encouragement?

  1. It comes from God himself

    Some examples are:

    Paul - Acts 18:9,10; Acts 27:20-25
    II Tim 4:16,17
    Eliiah - I Kings 19:4-7
    Joshua - Josh. 1:1-9; Isa 40:41; Psa 27:13,14

  2. It comes from within - "self-talk"

David encouraged himself in the Lord - I Sam 30:6
Remembering what the Lord said - John 16:4; Heb 13,5,6

  3. It can come from others

    A. Barnabas (Joses) name means "son of consolation"

Acts 4:36 - sold land to provide the needs of others - "I care"
Acts 9:26 - defended Paul: "I believe in you."
Acts 15:37 - John Mark, "I'll give you another chance."

    B. Those within the church.

    Heb. 10:23-25; Heb 12:12-15
    Onesiphorus - II Tim 1:6
    Titus - II Cor 7:5-7
    Philemon 1:7
    Isaiah 50:4
    Phil. 4:18 - Epaphroditus
