BIBLE BASICS For Smart People Who Do Not Want To Be Dummies About God and the Bible Lesson 9 - What About Prayer? Part III. (Text Version) What About Praise? Someone asked, Which is more important, prayer or praise? The answer he received was in the form of another question -- Which is more important to a bird, the right or left wing? 1.God said he would give "the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness" (Isaiah 61:3). 2.At the announcing of the birth of the Savior "there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God. and saying, Glory to God in the highest..." (Luke 2:13 -14). 3.After Jesus ascended back to heaven the disciples and others "worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God" (Luke 24:52-53). While doing this God sent the Holy Ghost and filled all of them, manifesting himself in supernatural ways. 4.Paul and Silas, having been beaten and put in stocks in jail, not only prayed but sang praises to God (Acts 16:25). Praise can be in the form of singing or otherwise. 5.The church after Pentecost were daily "praising God, and having favor with all the people" (Acts 2:47). 6.In the last chapter (150) of Psalms, every verse tells us to praise the Lord, where and how. The last verse says, "Let every thing that has breath praise the Lord. You praise the Lord." If you want to learn how to praise the Lord read Psalms 107; 138:1; 96:4; 113:3; 145:3; 142:7. 7.Hebrews 13:15 says, "By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to his name." For What Should We Pray? 1.In the "Lord's Prayer" some things are mentioned: daily bread (our necessities), forgiveness, deliverance from evil and temptation (Matthew 6:11-13). 2."Pray that you enter not into temptation" (Luke 22:40). 3.To be worthy to escape the snares of the world and the things that will happen during the great tribulation and be accounted worthy to stand before the Son of Man. "Watch therefore, and pray always, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man" (Luke 21:36). 4."Pray...that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified" (2 Thessalonians 3:1). 5.I "pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That you may approve things that are excellent; that you may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ" (Philippians 1:9). 6.Everything. "In everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God" (Philippians 4:6). 7.Healing and for one another. Pray one for another, that you may be healed.
