BIBLE BASICS For Smart People Who Do Not Want To Be Dummies About God and the Bible Lesson 11 - What About Angels? (Text Version) Scripture References: Acts 23:8; Revelation 12:7; Galatians 1:8; Hebrews 1:5-7, 14; Matthew 13:41; 24:31; Psalm 34:7; 91:11-12; Matthew 18:10; Acts 12:15; John 5:4. We shall also mention others during the course of the lesson. Introduction Is there life on other planets? Do those beings from space or other planets ever come to earth? Mankind in space explorations has been seeking an answer to these questions. That is part of what UFO's are about. There has been world-wide emphasis on Satan and demons. There have been many reported visits of angels during my lifetime. Those in the occult talk of spirit guides. What is this all about? There was a time when the educational and scientific world scoffed at the supernatural and that outside our natural realm. Then interest increased in the occult and demonic supernatural phenomena. This interest has continued to grow. If the supernatural on the Satanic side is real, the supernatural of God is much greater. Our interest should be in the realms of light--not in the realms of darkness, which is especially forbidden of God (Deuteronomy 18:9-13; Isaiah 8:19-20). Who Are the Angels? 1.Both the Hebrew and Greek words for angel means messenger or ambassador. Although the word is generally used for angels from heaven, it seems that the Greek word for angel is also used for the messengers of the churches, probably the pastors. 2.Angels are beings, created of God. They are of a higher order than man. Man (and Jesus in His humanity) is "a little lower than the angels," crowned "with glory and honor" and set over the works of God's hands (Hebrews 2:7). 3.Angels are "greater in power and might" (2 Peter 2:11). "Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word" (Psalm 103:20). They are "mighty" (2 Thessalonians 1:17). 4.It seems that there is is a language of angels (I Corinthians 13:1) but have no problem in communicating with people in their own languages. 5.They are messengers and servants of God. 6.They are "ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation" (Hebrews 1:14). Angels Are Not: 1.Just celestial beings with beautiful wings and bowed heads. Although the order of angels called seraphim were described as having six wings, which no doubt were beautiful, two of those wings were used to fly, two covered their face and two covered their feet. The angels in Scripture did not always appear to have wings. 2.They were not feminine weirdos as many artists seem to picture them. They are referred to in the masculine gender (he, him). They "neither marry, nor are given in marriage," Jesus said (Mark 12:25). 3.They are not naked "cherubs," like children with wings. 4.They are not people from earth who have gone to heaven and become angels. Both God and Satan, the devil have angels; there are both good and bad angels (Revelation 12:7; Matthew 25:41). Satan, himself, was once a high angel "anointed cherub that covereth" (Ezekiel 28:12-17). "Please tell me more." Copyright © 2018 Swiss Valley Web Design --- The Missing Link, Inc. P. O.
