Lesson 28 - Bible Instructions for Husbands and Wives. (Text Version)

God's Instructions To Husbands. Some Dos And Don'ts. (Cont'd.)

    6. Jesus said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery" (Matthew 19:9). Matthew 5:32 also says that by putting away his wife he causes her to commit adultery.
    7. "To avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife" (1 Corinthians 7:2).
    8. "Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence" (I Corinthians 7:3). (He must satisfy her lawful sexual needs.) He must not defraud (deprive) his wife and likewise the wife her husband except it be by consent for a time, that they may give himself to fasting and prayer; "and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency" (1 Corinthians 7:5).
    9. "The husband hath not power (authority) over his own body, but the wife" (1 Corinthians 7:4).
    10. "I command, yet not I, but the Lord...let not the husband put away his wife" (1 Corinthians 7:10-11).
    11. A man who has an unbelieving wife, and if she be pleased to dwell with him, he is not to leave her. "How knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?"
    12. 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 says, "Let not the wife depart from her husband. But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife." Would it not be the same for the husband that, although he is not to leave his wife, if he does any way, he should remain unmarried or be reconciled to his wife."
    13. "They that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away" (1 Corinthians 7:31).
    14. "He that is married careth for the things that are of this world, how he may please his wife" (1 Corinthians 7:33).
    15. Husband and wife are bound by the law of God to each other as long as they both live, but if one dies, the other is at liberty to be married to whom they will; only in the Lord (Corinthians 7:39). See also Romans 7:2.
    16. "The head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man" (1 Corinthians 11:3).
    17. "Neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God" (1 Corinthians 11:11-12).
    18. "The husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church" (Ephesians 5:23).
    19. "He (the husband) is the savior of the body" (Ephesians 5:23). (Savior = deliverer, protector; the same word used for Christ as Savior.)
    20. "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it" (Ephesians 5:25). "So ought men love their wives as their own bodies" (Ephesians 5:28). "Let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself" (Ephesians 5:33). "Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them" (Ephesians 3:19).
    21. God's plan is that a man be the husband of one wife only, and if the husband has more than one wife, he is not to hold the office of pastor or deacon in the church (1 Timothy 3:2; Titus 1:6).
    22. "Ye husbands, dwell with them (wives) according to knowledge, giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that Your provers be not hindered" (1 Peter 3:7).
    23. Every husband should "rule well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity." One who does not do so disqualifies himself from serving as pastor or deacon in the church (1 Timothy 4:5).
    24. "If any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel" (1 Timothy 5:8).
