Traditional worship of their gods

In Chung-Liao, they have just finished a great celebration. A time that they have every certain amount of years. They haven’t had this kind of celebration for twelve years and will not have it again for thirty years. The elders of the temple decide this.

They couldn’t eat any meat for three days and then at the end of that time they had a great worship with everybody gathering at the fairy tale quick made temples to celebrate. I use the words fairy tale to explain what prefab temple looked like.

It is such a sad thing to see. We in the states don’t see such monstrosities, so we can’t even imagine what they do here. It would cause your spirit to plummet.

They build a very colorful temporary temple. Then they set up long tables to place all kinds of food on that will be sacrificed to the gods they have brought. They kill very big pigs and place them on platforms with an apple in their mouth, dressed with many different kinds of things to impress and appease the spirits. Sometimes they will use goats. They use costumes to walk around as if they are the gods. It becomes very impressive to the children.

In some of these celebrations men walk on red hot coals to prove the spirit’s power. Others, like this one, will beat themselves until they bleed and show the power these spirits have. This is what these children see and think that their gods are so great. Then the next day it is back to usual and you wouldn’t even know there had been a celebration the preceding day. They live in such darkness here. Satan has a very strong hold on the people in Chung-Liao. They can’t see how useless this all is. Only what they see with their eyes, can they believe.
