~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: Please tell me exactly what does "Seeking the Kingdom of God" really mean? Is it in ones heart or what? And please keep it very simple.

Answer:First of all, the Kingdom of God is spiritual, and not material. A spiritual birth is necessary for entrance into it, as we see in John 3:3-16. When inquired of by Pilate, Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world...." (John 19:36). This kingdom , then, is spiritual and not material; it has a King, the Lord Jesus Christ, and its subjects are those who have been born again. (John 3:3). Its characteristics are further described in Romans 14:17: "For the Kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit." Its features are not outward, but inward in the human heart. Righteousness, peace and joy can come only from the Holy Spirit, who dwells in our bodies. (1 Corinthians 6:19). At the present time, the subjects of the invisible Kingdom of God are the born-again members of the true Church, which is also the Body of Christ.

When Jesus rode into the city of Jerusalem, riding on a donkey, He presented Himself to the Jewish nation as their King, but He was rejected by them. Therefore the complete fulfillment of the Kingdom of God was delayed, but will be fulfilled in its entirety in the near future.

We look for the return of Jesus, and when He comes, He will rule over this earth as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He will then give this world perfect government for a thousand years. That will be the final outcome of God's Kingdom. In the meantime, we, the citizens of the Kingdom of God await that day to come in all its fulfillment. (Revelation 19:11-21, 20:1-4, Isaiah 11:1-9, Daniel 7:13-14, 2:44). In the meantime, we "seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness." That means that we put forth every effort to promote and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, that He may become the King of men's hearts. (Matt 28:19-20, Mark 16:15, Luke 24:46-47). We must "occupy until He comes."

I have made this as simple and concise as I can. To do this subject justice, we need to do some thorough study of the Word of God. I trust that these remarks may be helpful.
