Ask a Minister

~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: Where in the Bible does it say that God will not put more on you than you can bear? I have a mentally retarded daughter with Prader Willi Syndrome. When I talk to others about what we are going through, I am always told that God will not put more on you than you can bear. Well I'm not bearing this too well at all. I am a Christian and I believe God does help us but this is just getting to be too much. Needing help badly.

Answer: The scripture to which you are probably referring is found in 1 Corinthians 10:13.

"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way of escape that ye may be able to bear it."

The Word of God is true, but we always have to meet the conditions before we can claim the promises.

I do not know enough about your exact circumstances to give you any advice. You need, in my opinion, to go to your pastor, who can give you more specific help, or refer you to someone who can help you. If you do not have a pastor, ask God to guide you to someone who can advise you. You need to be based in a Spirit filled church. I will pray for you, that God will give you grace, and that He will lead you to people who can give you the spiritual help and instruction that you need.
