Ask a Minister

~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: What should I do when I want to spend time reading the Bible, but I don't know what to read or where to start?

Answer: It is wonderful to hear that you have an interest in Bible reading!

It would be good for you to plan a regular Bible reading and time of devotion each day. Many wonderful devotional books have been written for that purpose. You can find them at any Christian book store. Each day, they tell you what portion of the Bible to read, and usually give a short story or illustration to help you understand the meaning of the scriptures you have just read. Some suggested devotional books are listed below.

Also, there is an excellent site on the internet called Daily Bible Reading.

Click on the link above, then choose the appropriate date. After that, there is a choice of a Daily Bible Card, which is only one verse; Daily Bible Verses, which is a short reading; or Daily Bible Reading, which is a longer reading and has a portion of scripture from both the Old and New Testament. If you choose the longer reading, you will be able to read the entire Bible in one year.

God bless you on your journey to know Him and His Word!
