~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: I read your article on tattooing and you mentioned that when one gets a tattoo as a sinner and then becomes saved, he does not need to feel shame since it is then covered by the Blood of the Lamb. What if one gets a tattoo as a Christian? I recently did so and at the time, I thought it was a matter of personal conviction and not a plain sin. Now, after reading your write-up, I question my actions. How am I supposed to deal with this now that I have a heart on my ankle for the rest of my life? Please help.

Answer: I appreciate your sincerity and tenderness toward the things of God.

You have not committed the unpardonable sin by getting a tattoo. I am glad that you have been convicted of what you did. God honors a contrite heart (Psalm 51).

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).

Simply admit to the Lord that you are sorry for your disobedience (even if done ignorantly), and He will graciously forgive.

This tattoo is permanent, unless you pay to have it removed. You may consider keeping it covered when in public, this will keep it from bringing a reproach to Christ.

It can be a reminder to you about how the Lord will put a mark on us in eternity to show His ownership of us. Thank God He saved us just in time. "And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads" (Revelation 22:4)

God bless you as you serve Him!
