Ask a Minister

~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: My faith has been destroyed. What can I do?

Answer: I am so glad that you came across our Net location; I believe that God was involved in that. My heart goes out to you, as does my prayers. It is obvious that you are crying out for help, and I want to begin by saying that God sees what you are facing, and He has the help and answers you need.

Not knowing all details of your situation, I will respond to the points you brought up. I would say lovingly and yet firmly that "friends" that tempt you with "sex and drugs" are not true friends at all. Friends are very important to all of us, but especially when you're young. You want to fit in, to please them, to be accepted by them. Often, to win their approval, we are willing to do almost anything in order not to be rejected.

The end of the lifestyle they are calling you to is death - both spiritually and physichally. I say again, a person that would lead you to that is not a friend. I strongly urge you to break off the relationships with these people, both quickly and completely; it will be hard, but it is absolutely necessary to your survival.

There are many Scriptures which warn us about the impact and influence of others on our lives. "Evil communications corrupt good manners." "A little leaven leavens the whole lump." "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scournful," etc.

As important as breaking off with the old crowd, is to find new friends who will help you and support you, and draw you closer to God. You'll find these friends in a good Bible believing church; they are there.

Get into the Bible, to prayer, and to a good church. You are in our prayers.
