Ask a Minister

~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: Could you please explain what having a monkey on your back means, And how does someone really know this has happened to them.

Answer: This was an expression used years ago for someone who had heroin addiction. It is not used as much today, but when it does it means the same. It describes someone with a heavy burden they cannot get rid of, like a monkey on the back that will not let go. The phrase was coined by drug addicts.
