~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: Why doesn't God show Himself as He did in the past? He might help people believe in Christ our Saviour.

Answer: In your question you have part of the answer: PAST. When Jesus came to this earth He was fulfilling a promise from the the past that the Father gave to man kind. From the beginning of Genesis it shows God's love for mankind, but it was mankind who left God. In the Old Testament, the Israelites never saw God; they saw the results of God's power.

Even though they saw this power of the Most Holy God, they still turned their backs on him in the wilderness and wanted to return to a sinful nation. They were never satisfied with what was given to them. They always wanted more, and their own way, not God's way. God never allowed their clothes to fall apart, their shoes never wore out, they always had food and the Lord God gave them water, yet they rebelled against God even after they saw all the plagues and the Red Sea part with such power that no man could ever have caused it. They rejoiced when they saw the soldiers being covered by the water and they began to dance and be merry. BUT, they soon forgot.

God gave man many promises but the best of all was the coming Messiah, who was going to save the world from its sinful condition. The people in the Old Testament looked forward, believing in faith for this promise. We look back in faith and trust, believing what Jesus said is truth.

Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: and no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me" (John 14:6). Jesus said we are to trust and believe who He is. Holding on to all truth with simple faith. He rebuked His own disciples for their unbelief (Matthew. 630; 14:31; 16:8; 17:17; Mark 4:40; Luke 24:25; John 20:27).

Are we any different that we should say, "I didn't see or know that there is a God, or that Jesus is the Son of God"? No, we do know because of the Word of God (Jesus), and the inspired word, the Bible, which anyone can obtain and read in the United States.

There is no excuse for anyone in the United States to say they need a sign from God to believe. That is the biggest excuse sent from Satan. (Hebrews 4:2) Our country was founded on The Almighty Creator of this universe. HE looked down and blessed this country in many ways, and the people continue to turn their backs on him and desire to have things in their old lustful, greedy, selfish, sinful way. There is no love, no humbleness, and no desire to turn to God or worship our Creator.

The true reason of unbelief is because people don't want to take time to read the Bible, they want someone to tell them what the Bible says and that is their biggest mistake. God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit has not become their personal Lord and Master. This is why they don't understand and don't believe. They want everything NOW, can't search the Scriptures, don't have time. God doesn't run on time, man does, and time is running out for man. (Hebrews 10:26) Lord Jesus help us!

We can know Jesus is our Saviour because we have the written inspired Word of God (1 John 1:1,5,7; Romans 9:5; Hebrews1:3; Revelation19:13) and the Holy Spirit to guide us. The people in the Old Testament had promises and only part of the word. We can look back at the men of God and we have the written Word from Jesus, the Son of God, the true Messiah. Jesus said we are to trust Him and believe who He says He is. Have faith in His promises

Two thousand years have come and gone, Jesus is not here in body, yet thousands come to know Him. Jesus said it is so simple that even the children can understand. They have a simple trust and we also must come as little children.

We see that in the last days it will be according to the Scripture in 2 Peter 3:1-18. Also in the last day, which is now, we will see sign seekers who always want to see the miracles, visions, prophets, and wonders to tell them what to do, but not believing God is truly God. Jesus told us that many times in the Bible. Read these Scriptures; Matthew 12:38; "We wish now to see thee work a miracle." It is never sufficient proof of the truth: because they will never be satisfied (Matthew16:1;24:3; Mark 8:11; Luke 11:16; John 2:18; 4:48; 1 Corinthians.1:22).

These were perverse desires for miracles and they were doubting if He had power to do it. In the Robertson Word Picture Commentary, it is written, "The demand was impudent, hypocritical, insulting to Jesus. (Bruce). It seems to be a temptation to sin. The Jews looked for signs and the Greeks looked for the wisdom of this world."

When Jesus died on the cross to redeem us from satan, He did it once and for all; for all people, all nations, in all the world (John 3:16) never to have to repeat this act again. He said in John 19:30, "It is finished". What more do we need when we know that God put it in our hearts to worship Him? When He said it is finished, that means we don't need visual aids to help us to believe (Hebrews.10:6-12,16). God is Spirit and we must worship Him in spirit.

Let us who earnestly want to seek the truth and the living God, not look for signs, but seek after truth through the Word that was given to us by the Holy Spirit and who will teach us all things concerning the Kingdom of God. Not doubting, but believing that His word is TRUTH.
