Ask a Minister

~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: Well, it's been a long path for me. In fact, the things I would really want to ask are much too difficult to explain. In fact, I could write a whole book on the things I really would like to ask. I've seen many things, and God has revealed mysteries to me, which are too complicated to explain. But, the easier question that I would like to ask is the following:

I am not cut out for any of the things which I desire to do. I am just basically, an entertainer. Always entertained others, and wanted nothing else other than to entertain others, until I got saved.

Now, I tried the regular jobs and I hate em, hate em, hate em. I am not happy. Yet, I do want to please God. I write scripts which I would one day like to produce and evangelize, and prophesy with. However, I know it is not realistic now. I want to get my foot in the door by acting, of course in the secular realm. For, there is no money in Christian films, nor would I like to accept money for being in a Christian film. But, I need a job, a job that I like and a job in the entertainment industry.

Knowing about how we are in the world and not of the world, is so true, I want to audition for parts which have no nudity or sex. I don't want to sell out to the world, but, I know God has also directed me into this field, because He confirmed it. I need so much direction, I am already 24, and getting too old to be an actress, and I want to go on and get an agent. But, can you give me some insight on this matter???

Answer:

You are certainly to be commended in your sincere desire to be used of God. It is difficult when our desires and ambitions may come in to conflict with the will and the word of God. We may question those talents, abilities and desires in such a way as thinking that God gave us those talents and therefore we should use them for His Glory.

May I share here that God desires to use each individual. He is so concerned about our life's ambitions. He desires that we would give him top place in all of our plans.

As you will seek after God, He will direct you.

Some considerations:

1. God does honor His work above all else.

2. The scripture is very clear about a separation God has placed between good and evil. In the area of entertainment, there are very few professions where one could be totally free of the influence of evil. As you are well aware, even the Gospel Music Industry itself is filled with those who are less than "sold out for God". Ministry should never be show. What we do for the Lord should be Christ exalting as well as soul reaching. I trust the following scriptures might be helpful to you.

A. "If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore, the world hated you." (John 15:19)

B. "And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them."(Ephesians 5:11)

C. "Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us". (II Thessalonians 3:5)

3. You sound somewhat unsure about what you feel the Lord wants you to do. Have you thought about giving yourself to God for a period of Bible School Training? This could be a great opportunity for you to set time aside to seek the will of God to determine just how He can use the talents you have developed.

4. Youth ministry often provides great opportunities to "entertain" while ministering. Many churches are replacing Vacation Bible Schools with Kids Crusades.

Thank you for the opportunity to share my thoughts with you. "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His RIGHTEOUSNESS and all these things shall be added unto you". (Matthew 6:33).

God Bless you in your search for HIM.
