Question: We are looking for scriptures against "generational curses". My son is involved with a girl that has epilepsy, leukemia, etc. Is there a way to explain to this girl that it is not of the devil? She was healed of a brain tumor too. My son has told her that Satan cannot do anything unless God permits him to do so. So she thinks that God is allowing all her sickness for a reason. She is under such bondage with this thing!Answer:
I can sense that you are really distraught about this situation; by God's grace don't let it do that to you! Jesus is in control. He will give victory if we trust Him. I want to say also, that it will take "prayer and fasting" to resolve some spiritual matters that are severe. You must take authority over the enemy! Praise God.
As far as generational sins, I believe that they can and often do pertain to sinners, however the 'BLOOD' of Jesus breaks all curses! I have heard how preachers have made people delve into their ancestors past that they might repent and confess the sins of their ancestors, this is not biblical! Your sins and your sins only before God are your responsibility, not anyone else's.
Sickness can be caused by several things.
It can come because our own sin: Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. (John 5:14) (KJV)
Or it could due to God wanting to be glorified by it: Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. (John 9:3) When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. (John 11:4) One commentary on this verse says "That is, death shall not prevail, but God shall be glorified by his rescue from death."
Not knowing the complete story it is hard for me to comment on what I believe the source of her illness is, however I do know that she needs to confess any known sin in HER LIFE. This leads to several things including a free spirit with God, and will be a way to remedy her sickness if the source of it is sin (James 5:13-15).
If we are saved, the scripture assures us of this great promise that, " Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you (God), than he that is in the world". (Satan) (1John 4:4)
I trust that you are in, or are seeking for a good Bible believing Church where the Spirit of God is manifested and the Preaching of God's Word is paramount! These will help you with this situation as well as all others that will come down the road. You need a godly Pastor and godly Christian family you can share your burdens and needs with. You yourself as a dedicated Christian can 'pray the prayer of faith." No preacher has to do it! It may help though to have others praying with you! Walk close with God knowing that "the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits." (Daniel 11:32)
