Lesson 14 - What About the Resurrection? (Text Version)

Statements of Fact by Jesus: (Cont'd.)

  1. John 5:21, 25, 28-29 (Cont'd.)
  2. John 6:39-40: "And this is the Father's will which hath sent me that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day."
  3. John 11:25: "Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead yet shall he live."
  4. Matthew 22:31-32: "But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living." See also Mark 12:18-27 and Luke 20:27-37.
  5. John 14:19: "Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also."
  6. Luke 20:35: "But the which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: Neither can they die any more; for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection."

The Apostles' Teaching on the Resurrection:

  1. Acts 2:26-31. Peter preached the resurrection of Jesus, using Psalm 16:8-11.
  2. Acts 4:2: "They taught the people and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead."
  3. Acts 23:6. Paul said, "Of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question."
  4. Acts 26:8: (Paul) "Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead?"
  5. Romans 8:11: (Paul) "But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken (make alive) your mortal bodies by the Spirit that dwelleth in you."
  6. 1 Corinthians 6:14: (Paul) "God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power...."
  7. 1 Corinthians 15. Here is much teaching on the resurrection by Paul, which we will consider separately.
  8. 2 Corinthians 4:14: (Paul) "Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. "
  9. Philippians 3: 10-11: (Paul) "That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. no shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself."
  10. 1 Thessalonians 4:14: (Paul) "For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first."
  11. 2 Timothy 1:10: (Paul) "But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel."
  12. 2 Timothy 2:18: (Paul) "Whoo concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already: and overthrow the faith of some."
  13. Hebrews 6:2: "Of doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment."
  14. Hebrews 11:19: "(Abraham) Accounting that God was able to raise him (Isaac) up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure. (35) Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection."
  15. Revelation 1:18: "I (Jesus) am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death."
  16. Revelation 20:4-6: "And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
