Lesson 21 - The Life and Ministry of Jesus - Part I (Text Version)

The Oppositions He Encountered
and the Disturbances the Enemy Caused
(Not a Surprise to God but Prophesied).
(Cont'd.)

How Did the Lord Use Each Event of Opposition to Teach Important Lessons?

Trouble

  1. When we think about people
    Trouble grows;
    When we think about God
    Trouble goes.

  2. God is greater than all my troubles!
  3. Troubles that you borrow soon become your own.
  4. Be careful how you sidestep trouble; you might miss duty.
  5. The most trouble is produced by those who don't produce anything else.
  6. The people we have the most trouble with is ourselves.
  7. "They who have nothing to trouble them will be troubled at nothing" (Benjamin Franklin).
  8. The shadow of a trouble is mostly blacker than the trouble itself
  9. Borrowing trouble's as easy as pie, but the carrying charges run pretty high.
  10. Troubles, like babies, grow larger by nursing.
  11. "In the presence of trouble, some people grow wings; others buy crutches" (Harold W. Ruopp).
  12. The best way to look at trouble is through the wrong end of a telescope.
  13. The brook would lose its song if you removed the rocks.
  14. "Never attempt to bear more than one kind of trouble at once. Some people bear three kinds: all they had, all they have now, and all they expect to have" (Edward Everett Hale).
  15. "If you brood over troubles, you will have a perfect batch" (J. Hopkins).
  16. If you can laugh at your troubles, you will never run out of something to laugh at.
  17. "Never go to meet trouble. If you will just sit still, nine times out of ten someone will intercept it before it reaches you" (Calvin Coolidge).

  18. Don't Give Up

    I've taught a class for many years;
    Borne many burdens -- toiled through tears
    But folks don't notice me a bit;
    I'm so discouraged -- I'll quit.
    Sometime ago I joined the choir
    That many folks I might inspire
    But folks don't seem moved a bit
    And I won't stand it. I'll just quit.
    I've led young people day and night
    And sacrificed to lead them right.
    But folks won't help me out a bit,
    And I'm so tired, I think I'll quit.
    Christ's cause is hindered everywhere
    And folks are dying in despair.
    The reason why? Just think a bit;
    The Church is full of folks who quit.

    Better never trouble trouble
    Until trouble troubles you;
    For you only make your trouble
    Double-trouble when you do;
    And the trouble, like a bubble,
    That you're troubling about,
    May be nothing but a cipher
    With its rim rubbed out.

    -David Keppel

    When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
    When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
    When the funds are low and the debts are high.
    And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
    When things are pressing you down a bit,
    Rest if you must -- but don't you quit.

    Follow Christ Even If It Is Into Trouble
    Remember the Cross?

    "Please tell me more."
