Lesson 25 - The Life and Ministry of Jesus - Part V (Cont'd.)(Text Version)

What Did He Teach? (Cont'd.)

    3. He taught the resurrection from the dead.

      a. "Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live" (John 5:25).

"Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation" (John 5:28).

"I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live" (John 11:25).

      b. He raised people from the dead (Matthew 9:18-25; Luke 7:11-15; John 11:43-44).

      c. He arose from the dead and other people who had been dead arose from the dead after his resurrection and appeared unto many. "And the graves were opened, and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many" (Matt. 27:52-53).

      d. He has promised to raise us, who believe, from the dead: "...I will raise him up at the last day" (John 6:40, 44).

    4. He taught that the living and the dead will be brought to judgment at Judgment Day.

"The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here. The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon: and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here" (Matt. 12:41-42). See also Matthew 25.

    5. He taught that there is a hell where there is fire and torment and that is everlasting, "prepared for the devil and his angels" and warned people that their whole body and soul could be cast into "hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched" (Mark 9:43-44).

    6. He taught that "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you" (John 14:2).

    7. He taught that he would return to the Father and that he will come again to receive His people to himself and take them to the place prepared for them (John 14:3).

    8. He taught that Jerusalem and the temple would be destroyed and that the Jews would be "led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall he trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled" (Luke 20-24).

    9. He taught of the Great Tribulation that is yet to come upon the world and of great "signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall he shaken" (Luke 21:25-26).

    10. He taught that he will return in power and great glory at the end of the Great Tribulation and will establish his kingdom on earth. 'And then shall they seethe Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory" (Luke 21:27).

    11. He taught "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, he hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord" (Luke 4:18-19), and passed on that privilege and responsibility to his apostles and the church. He taught that we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world (Matthew 5:13-14).

    12. He taught that those who do not repent will perish (Luke 13:3, 5).

    13. He taught that it is necessary to be born again to see or enter the kingdom of God (John 3:1-13). He taught that He has power on earth to forgive sins (Matthew 9:6).
